Platform was founded with a different approach to private equity investing. We tried to incorporate the best aspects of private equity for both investors and business owners.
We are structured as a Company, not a private equity fund, with permanent capital and without arbitrary timeframes to exit investments. This distinction allows business owners and managers to focus on operations and creating long-term value without the disruption caused by frequent sale processes.
Our operating background and experience gives us a different perspective on the challenges of managing a business. We work hard to be helpful to management teams and are not simply focused on the “numbers”. In addition to being active board members, we are proactive in all aspects of managing portfolio companies. We act as a sounding board for managers and we do our best to help grow the business, while allowing the management to focus on running the day to day operations. Often times, we source and help execute add-on acquisitions, we act as a point of contact with lenders, legal and tax advisors, and we help recruit complimentary additions to the management team. We also have strong relationships with numerous debt financing sources. The Principals at Platform have helped arrange over $5 billion of capital and complete over 100 add-on acquisitions for prior and current portfolio companies.
Our investors are also a tremendous asset. The majority of our investors are successful executives who have run their own company. Industry expertise includes: energy, transportation, industrial products and services, transaction processing, food and beverage, retail, insurance, asset management, real estate, private equity and hedge funds. The diverse backgrounds and willingness to provide support is a significant advantage for Platform and our portfolio companies.
